Download one and install it. Here are client-specific documentation and examples.

Register and Sign on to the jabber service

Configuration is dependent on your client. Here is an example of registering using Gaim. The server name is jabber.dsd.lbl.gov, the port is 5223, and you provide the username and password during the registration step. If you can't connect, try disabling SSL (the non-SSL port is 5222).

Log in to the osg-community chatroom

This may also be client dependent. The room name is osg-community, and the server is conference.jabber.dsd.lbl.gov. Gaim lets you specify this information separately; some clients (such as ayttm) may need it input as osg-community@conference.jabber.dsd.lbl.gov.
